Intel is advertising $10000 to anyone who is willing to part with their copy of the April 19, 1965 issue of Electronics Mabazine, which contains the famous proclamation by Gordon Moore of Intel that the number of transistors in microprocessors would double every couple of years. Now, libraries are having to protect their copies of the issue from conniving opportunists who would steal the magazine to sell to Intel.

Update 4-28-05: The Issue has been found and the reward awarded. Phew, at least we don’t have to worry about that one anymore!

iPod Experiments

At today’s spring assembly, we had an interesting conversation during one of the small group sessions and then again at lunch about the use of iPods (and other MP3 players) in libraries. LJ Connect just featured an article by Michael Stephens, which looks at the different ways they are being used.

For those who don’t know, Wikipedia is an online, collaborative encyclopedia that gathers information from all of it’s users. Through a system of moderation the inaccurate information is culled out of the mix and we are left with an online “encyclopedia” that rivals many big print encyclopedias. It’s a useful reference tool. Today we’ve got an article from Slashdot about the early life of Wikipedia. Read, learn, use.
