Podcast Fever

Posted on September 12th, 2006 by Brenda

I remember when I first started using the web. I was giddy over all of the things I could find and could not stop thinking about the possibilities. Now, over a decade later, I still feel pretty excited about the web.

I’ve noticed a similar sort of excitement in the air in the last few weeks… this time over podcasts. I have had at least three people tell me they are seriously ga-ga over finding and downloading podcasts to their iPods. I think there was a wave a while back, where people got really, really excited about the coolness of downloading music. Now I think there’s some buzz in the air over how cool it is to find content, download it to your player, and have it available to listen to at your convenience.

Are you new to the world of podcasting? Wikipedia helps explain what a podcast is.

Are you a podcast lover? What do you listen to? About which resources are you most excited? I’ve heard several people mention NPR podcasts. What else?

  1. Omigosh… if you have iTunes, look up the Tacoma Cat Hospital Podcasts. Informative if you like cats. Oh, and if you have a video iPod (like me :D ) you can get a video podcast of “A few seconds in Paris.” I have a bunch of technology podcasts, “The World: Technology” and “NPR: Technology.” I also listen to Ben Walker’s Theory of Everything (amazing stuff) and catch Zefrank’s “The Show” as a video podcast.

I have podcasts of subjects from Technology to Food to Cats to Politics… I feel incredibly spoiled! I’m now rather annoyed by radio… as I can’t control what content they make me listen to!

  2. “Buzz out Loud!” This is put out by CNET. Probably my favorite podcast. It is put out generally M-F and is about 25 minutes long. They talk about tech news and related manner, but have enough experience to present a listenable program.

On a side note, It is interesting how long it takes some technologies to catch on. Blogs are a good example of something that has been around for a long time but is just now starting to get some cred to it. Podcasts seem to be going through the same thing, just about the time I get tired of them, everyone starts to embrace them.

  3. There are exciting possiblities for learning here! Two places I especially like to listen to are: Hay House radio and TED Talks. Chris Brogan is the very creative guy behind Podcamp Boston which just happened. He has lots of projects going, one of them is the Grasshopper Factory.

  4. I just recorded, edited and uploaded the first PaperCuts podcast this week! Check us out and let us know what you think (beyond the fact that the audio is a little soft)!

  5. Cool Meghan… is the papercuts podcast listed in the iTunes podcast directory? That’s where I find most of mine.
